Most microwaves run fine on a standard 15-amp household circuit. But high-wattage models — typically those rated above 1440W — draw more than 15 amps at full power and require a dedicated 20-amp circuit. Installing a 15A-only microwave on a shared circuit risks tripping breakers repeatedly. The models below all exceed that threshold. If you don't already have a 20A circuit at the installation location, factor in the electrician cost.
